Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) Educator is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs that support nursing practice and enhance patient care. This role combines clinical expertise with a passion for teaching, serving as a resource and mentor for nursing staff, students, and interdisciplinary team members. The RN Educator plays a vital role in promoting evidence-based practice, professional development, and continuous learning within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess learning needs and design educational programs for nursing staff and other healthcare team members.
- Develop, coordinate, and deliver orientation, in-service training, and continuing education sessions.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs and make necessary adjustments based on feedback and outcomes.
- Support new staff onboarding by serving as a clinical mentor and resource.
- Collaborate with department leaders to identify skill gaps and develop targeted training initiatives.
- Facilitate competency assessments, skills validations, and performance improvement activities.
- Ensure educational content aligns with current evidence-based practices, hospital policies, and accreditation standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and promote a culture of safety and professional excellence.
- Maintain accurate records of training activities, attendance, and certifications.
- Stay current with trends in nursing education, adult learning principles, and clinical best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
- Licensure: Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical nursing experience, with at least 1–2 years in an educator, preceptor, or leadership role.
- Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic health record (EHR/EMR) systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- MSN in Nursing Education or equivalent degree.
- Experience developing and implementing clinical education programs or staff development initiatives.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Prior experience in a hospital-based education or clinical educator role.
Certifications
- Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Preferred: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Optional/Preferred: Nursing Professional Development Certification (NPD-BC) or Clinical Nurse Educator credential.
