Job Summary
The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Psych Services department plays a vital role in delivering both direct and indirect patient care. Using the nursing process, the RN provides comprehensive psychiatric and medical support to patients across all assigned areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide psychiatric nursing care to patients ages 5 and older
- Assess and manage patients with depression, bipolar disorder, adjustment disorder, and psychotic disorders
- Monitor and support patients experiencing acute psychiatric crises
- Deliver care to patients requiring both psychiatric and medical management
- Assess and manage patients requesting or requiring detoxification services
- Monitor withdrawal symptoms and provide appropriate nursing interventions
- Conduct ongoing mental health assessments and reassessments
- Implement individualized treatment and safety plans
- Administer prescribed psychiatric and medical medications
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care
- Provide therapeutic communication and crisis intervention
- Ensure patient safety through close observation and risk assessment
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Nursing (minimum requirement)
- Valid State of Maine RN license
- Current BLS Certification
- CPI training must be current prior to start date
- Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
Preferred Qualifications (if any)
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
- Experience in emergency psychiatric care or crisis intervention

- CPI Certification (required prior to start)
