Job Description:

  • Job Summary:
    • Responsible for the proper decontamination, inspection, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instruments.
    • Operates processing equipment.
    • Proficient in instrument decontamination and assembly, aware of sterilization methods and their appropriate use.

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Decontaminates surgical instruments according to manufacturer’s instructions or department supervisor/manager's advice.
    • Operates decontamination equipment.
    • Inspects instruments post-decontamination to ensure cleanliness, functionality, and completeness.
    • Assembles trays to ensure device sterility and ease of use for the end user.
    • Uses count sheets to accurately assemble trays.
    • Interfaces with department tracking system for all processing functions.
    • Packages or containerizes instrument sets per manufacturer’s guidelines and standards.
    • Loads sterilizer carts to prevent puncturing or compromising packaged items, following recommended practices.
    • Runs daily sterilizer tests on all sterilizers.
    • Operates sterilizers according to manufacturer’s instructions, ensuring biological monitoring for every load.
    • Documents all load contents, interfaces load to tracking system, confirms correct parameters, and records all pertinent information.
    • Unloads sterilizers ensuring items are uncompromised and stores them correctly per tracking system storage locations.
    • Maintains cleanliness of the department and all processing equipment.

    Required Qualifications:
    • High School Graduate or Equivalent.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • 2 years' work experience in CSPD.

    Certifications:
    • CRCST, CBSPDT, CIS preferred.
