Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and reliable Milieu Counselor to join our inpatient behavioral health team. The ideal candidate will play a key role in supporting a therapeutic and structured environment for patients experiencing psychiatric crises. This position works closely with the nursing and clinical teams to implement treatment plans and ensure patient safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver care in alignment with the Nursing Department's Standards of Care.
- Support and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the clinical team.
- Facilitate a therapeutic milieu through effective communication, interaction, and behavioral interventions.
- Participate in unit monitoring, safety rounds, and crisis intervention efforts.
- Maintain a safe, supportive, and structured inpatient psychiatric environment.
- Attend to the individual needs of patients while promoting dignity, respect, and autonomy.
- Communicate effectively with patients, peers, and clinical leadership.
- Document observations and interventions accurately and timely.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma required.
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in milieu counseling or behavioral health.
- Strong communication, crisis intervention, and de-escalation skills.
- Experience working in inpatient behavioral health or human services settings.
- Must possess a current AHA BLS certification.
- Ability to function effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Willingness to receive a flu vaccine during flu season.
- Must wear scrubs (any color acceptable).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Human Services, Psychology, or related field.
- Experience with EPIC or similar EMR systems.
- Prior travel experience in a similar role.
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required (American Heart Association only)
