  • Job Summary
    We are seeking a compassionate and reliable Milieu Counselor to join our inpatient behavioral health team. The ideal candidate will play a key role in supporting a therapeutic and structured environment for patients experiencing psychiatric crises. This position works closely with the nursing and clinical teams to implement treatment plans and ensure patient safety.

    Key Responsibilities
    1. Deliver care in alignment with the Nursing Department's Standards of Care.
    2. Support and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the clinical team.
    3. Facilitate a therapeutic milieu through effective communication, interaction, and behavioral interventions.
    4. Participate in unit monitoring, safety rounds, and crisis intervention efforts.
    5. Maintain a safe, supportive, and structured inpatient psychiatric environment.
    6. Attend to the individual needs of patients while promoting dignity, respect, and autonomy.
    7. Communicate effectively with patients, peers, and clinical leadership.
    8. Document observations and interventions accurately and timely.

    Required Qualifications
    1. High school diploma required.
    2. Minimum 1–2 years of experience in milieu counseling or behavioral health.
    3. Strong communication, crisis intervention, and de-escalation skills.
    4. Experience working in inpatient behavioral health or human services settings.
    5. Must possess a current AHA BLS certification.
    6. Ability to function effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
    7. Willingness to receive a flu vaccine during flu season.
    8. Must wear scrubs (any color acceptable).

    Preferred Qualifications
    1. Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Human Services, Psychology, or related field.
    2. Experience with EPIC or similar EMR systems.
    3. Prior travel experience in a similar role.

    Certifications
    1. Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required (American Heart Association only)

    2. Two (2) recent references from Charge RN, Manager, or Supervisor in behavioral health
    3. Specialty-specific Skills Checklist
