  • Job Summary
    The Registered Nurse (RN) – Intermediate Care Unit (IMC) is responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care to acutely ill patients who require close monitoring but not intensive care. This role involves assessing patient conditions, planning and implementing care plans, administering medications and treatments, and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The RN in the IMC serves as a critical link between intensive and general medical-surgical care, balancing technical skills with compassionate patient support.

    Key Responsibilities
    1. Assess, monitor, and document patient conditions and responses to treatments in accordance with hospital protocols.
    2. Administer prescribed medications, IVs, and treatments with accuracy and safety.
    3. Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans based on patient needs.
    4. Respond quickly to changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions.
    5. Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, and other healthcare staff to coordinate patient care.
    6. Educate patients and families about medical conditions, procedures, and post-discharge care.
    7. Adhere to infection control and patient safety protocols.
    8. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
    9. Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives and ongoing education.
    10. Support new staff through mentoring and preceptorship, as assigned.

    Required Qualifications
    1. Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in [State].
    2. Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
    3. Minimum of 1–2 years of acute care or step-down nursing experience.
    4. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
    5. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (or must be obtained within specified timeframe after hire).
    6. Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
    7. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

    Preferred Qualifications
    1. Prior experience in an Intermediate Care (IMC), Progressive Care (PCU), or Telemetry unit.
    2. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
    3. Certification in Progressive Care Nursing (PCCN) or similar specialty.

    Certifications
    1. Registered Nurse (RN) – active and unrestricted.
    2. Basic Life Support (BLS) – required.
    3. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – required or to be obtained within 6 months of hire.
    4. PCCN certification – preferred.
