Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Technologist - First Assist to join our surgical team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in supporting surgeons during operative procedures by ensuring a sterile environment, preparing instruments, and providing direct assistance throughout the surgery. This position requires advanced knowledge of surgical techniques, a commitment to patient safety, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced operating room environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist surgeons during operative and invasive procedures, anticipating surgical team needs.
- Provide direct patient care and support before, during, and after procedures.
- Prepare and maintain the surgical environment, including instruments, equipment, and sterile fields.
- Monitor and ensure adherence to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
- Handle and pass surgical instruments and supplies to the surgeon during procedures.
- Close wounds and apply dressings under the supervision of the surgeon.
- Document operative procedures accurately and timely in accordance with hospital policies.
- Collaborate with nurses, anesthesiologists, and other surgical team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
- Completion of an approved First Assist training program.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist, with at least 1 year in a First Assist role.
- Strong understanding of surgical procedures and instrumentation.
- Ability to remain focused and calm in high-stress surgical environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in multiple surgical specialties (e.g., orthopedics, cardiovascular, neurosurgery).
- Knowledge of electronic health records (EHR) and surgical documentation systems.
- Bilingual or multilingual communication skills.
Certifications
- Current Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) or Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) credential.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required).
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (preferred).
