  • Job Summary  
    We are seeking a skilled Floater Phlebotomist I to join our laboratory services team. The ideal candidate will perform specimen collection and processing across multiple units, ensuring accuracy, patient comfort, and compliance with established protocols. This role requires adaptability, strong technical skills, and the ability to work with diverse patient populations including pediatric and geriatric patients.

    Key Responsibilities
    1. Perform blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging, and decontamination procedures.
    2. Collect and store specimens according to established protocols.
    3. Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes to patients.
    4. Demonstrate proficiency with straight needles and butterfly needles.
    5. Accurately match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
    6. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
    7. Verify requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
    8. Package specimens for transport while maintaining integrity and compliance with temperature requirements.
    9. Update patient information and record maintenance data accurately.
    10. Fully understand and follow physicians’ orders related to specimen collection.

    Required Qualifications
    1. Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
    2. At least 2 years of experience performing blood draws and venipunctures.
    3. Proficiency in using straight and butterfly needles, and handling color-coded tubes.
    4. Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
    5. High School Diploma or equivalent.
    Preferred Qualifications (if any)
    1. Prior experience working in a hospital or multi-unit healthcare setting.
    2. Strong communication and patient interaction skills.
    3. Ability to adapt quickly to different units and patient needs.

    Certifications (if any)
    1. Phlebotomy certification (preferred but not required).
    2. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (preferred).
