Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse – Operating Room (OR) to provide comprehensive perioperative nursing care in a surgical environment. The ideal candidate will collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide direct nursing care to patients throughout the perioperative process.
• Prepare operating rooms, surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies prior to procedures.
• Perform preoperative patient assessments and verify patient identity, surgical site, and procedure.
• Assist surgeons and the surgical team during operative procedures while maintaining a sterile environment.
• Monitor patient condition throughout surgical procedures and respond appropriately to changes.
• Administer medications, intravenous therapies, and treatments in accordance with physician orders and established protocols.
• Ensure compliance with infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory standards.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care and surgical procedures.
• Coordinate care with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other healthcare professionals.
• Educate patients and families regarding preoperative and postoperative care instructions.
• Assist with postoperative patient recovery and transition of care as appropriate.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support a safe, patient-centered surgical environment.
Required Qualifications
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Experience working in an Operating Room (OR) or perioperative setting.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Strong knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques.
• Experience circulating surgical procedures; scrub experience is a plus.
• Excellent clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.
• Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Experience with a variety of surgical specialties in an acute care hospital setting.
• Knowledge of evidence-based perioperative nursing practices.
Certifications
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) License.
• Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
• Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) preferred.
