Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse specializing in psychiatric care to provide direct nursing services to patients with acute and chronic mental health disorders. This role involves delivering compassionate care in inpatient and behavioral health settings, supporting patients through therapeutic interventions, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe and effective treatment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, including Mental Status Examinations (MSE) and suicide risk evaluations.
- Administer and monitor psychotropic medications, assessing therapeutic effects and potential adverse reactions.
- Manage psychiatric emergencies using crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
- Provide therapeutic communication and support to patients and families.
- Document behavioral observations, treatment plans, and patient progress accurately.
- Monitor patients undergoing substance withdrawal and detoxification.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic milieu within the care environment.
- Collaborate with physicians, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent degree.
- Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
- Strong knowledge of psychiatric nursing practices, crisis intervention, and medication management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in inpatient psychiatric units or behavioral health clinics.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Training in trauma-informed care or behavioral therapy techniques.
Certifications (if any)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (preferred).
- Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification (PMHN-BC) (preferred).
