JOB SUMMARY
The Speech Language Pathologist partners with residents and other care providers to provide Speech Language Pathology services to maximize their function and independence in their daily activities.

Key Responsibilities
• Performs evaluative and therapeutic procedures under the order of a physician or other accepted healthcare provider while observing precautions, indications, and contraindications.
• Provides evaluation and treatment in the areas of communication disorders and dysphagia, including modified barium swallow.
• Evaluates residents per department protocols and establishes a therapeutic plan of care with functional long- and short-term goals, including frequency, duration, and rehabilitation potential.
• Seeks input from residents and primary caregivers regarding the therapeutic plan of care.
• Provides consultation to referring physicians and other healthcare team members regarding the therapeutic and discharge needs of the resident.
• Attends pertinent team meetings.
• Monitors and evaluates treatment effects, progresses the treatment program toward established functional goals, and modifies the treatment plan as necessary.
• Documents all evaluative and therapeutic interactions with the resident per department procedures, ensuring documentation is accessible and understandable to the care team.
• Recommends and obtains appropriate communication/swallowing assistive devices, ensuring residents are instructed in their use.
• Provides appropriate education to the resident or caregiver and documents their response to teaching.
• Understands Medicare, Medicaid, and other reimbursement regulations.
• Maintains clinical knowledge, skills, and competence, and shares expertise with others.
• Provides in-services regarding clinical knowledge and skills to nursing and other departments.
• Actively assists with the development of new programs and services in Speech Therapy.
• Maintains awareness of professional updates through professional organizations and publications.
• Coordinates and ensures Speech and Language coverage.
• Maintains department cleanliness and maintenance by keeping office and clinical areas clean and neat.
• Assists with routine equipment and space cleaning and follows all system and department infection control procedures.

Required Qualifications
• Masters degree required.
• Speech & Language Pathologist license required.
• Certificate of Clinical Competence required.
• Ability to speak, read, write, and understand written instructions in English.

Preferred Qualifications
