JOB SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse – Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab RN) is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures. This role involves pre-procedure preparation, intra-procedure monitoring, and post-procedure recovery, ensuring patient safety and optimal outcomes in a high-acuity environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, pacemaker implantation, and other interventional procedures.
- Monitor patient vital signs and condition during procedures.
- Administer medications and contrast agents as ordered by the physician.
- Assist cardiologists during procedures by handling instruments and maintaining a sterile field.
- Provide post-procedural care, including monitoring for complications and managing recovery.
- Educate patients and families about procedures, recovery, and lifestyle modifications.
- Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including cardiologists, radiologists, and anesthesiologists.
- Respond to emergencies and manage patients under sedation.
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in critical care or cardiac nursing.
- Proficiency in EKG interpretation, IV therapy, and emergency response.
- Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Epic clinical systems or electronic health records.
- Familiarity with cardiac device implantation and electrophysiology procedures.
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Cardiac Vascular Nursing Certification (CVN) preferred.
