Job Summary
The Electrophysiology (EP) Technician is responsible for assisting physicians during electrophysiology studies, ablations, pacemaker/ICD implants, and other cardiac procedures. This role ensures proper setup, operation, and maintenance of specialized EP lab equipment and provides critical intra-procedural support to ensure patient safety and procedural efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist physicians during electrophysiology procedures, including diagnostic and interventional studies.
- Operate EP lab equipment such as mapping systems, stimulators, and recording systems.
- Prepare and maintain sterile fields, ensuring all required instruments and equipment are available and functioning.
- Monitor patient vitals and document procedural details accurately in real time.
- Calibrate and troubleshoot EP equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Coordinate with nursing and technical staff to ensure procedural readiness and patient comfort.
- Maintain accurate logs of procedures, equipment usage, and inventory.
- Adhere to hospital and department policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in an electrophysiology or cardiac catheterization lab.
- Strong understanding of cardiac anatomy, electrophysiology procedures, and medical terminology.
- Proficient in operating EP systems and other related technologies.
- Excellent communication and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to work in high-stress, fast-paced clinical environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor's degree in a health-related field.
- Prior experience in an EP Lab or similar environment with advanced responsibilities.
- Familiarity with 3D mapping systems (e.g., CARTO, EnSite, or Rhythmia).
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification – required
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification – preferred
- RCES (Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist) certification – preferred
