Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Registered Nurse (RN) – Operating Room (OR) to provide perioperative nursing care for patients undergoing surgical procedures. The OR Nurse plays a critical role in ensuring patient safety, maintaining a sterile environment, assisting the surgical team, and delivering high-quality care before, during, and after surgery.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care throughout the perioperative process.
- Prepare operating rooms, surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies for procedures.
- Verify patient identity, surgical site, and procedure according to established protocols.
- Maintain a sterile environment and adhere to infection prevention standards.
- Assist surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical technologists during procedures.
- Monitor patients' condition before, during, and immediately after surgery.
- Administer medications, intravenous therapies, and treatments as prescribed.
- Ensure proper handling, counting, and documentation of surgical instruments, sponges, and supplies.
- Document patient care, procedures, and outcomes accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Advocate for patient safety and compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure optimal surgical outcomes.
- Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN).
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.
- Knowledge of aseptic technique, infection control, and surgical safety standards.
- Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Previous Operating Room, Perioperative, Surgical Services, or Critical Care nursing experience.
- Experience in circulating and/or scrub nursing roles.
- Familiarity with a variety of surgical specialties, including orthopedic, cardiovascular, neurological, general, and outpatient procedures.
- Knowledge of perioperative standards and surgical equipment.
- Experience with robotic-assisted surgical procedures.
Certifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) License.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification (preferred).
- Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) Certification (preferred).
- Moderate Sedation Certification (preferred, if applicable).
