JOB SUMMARY Assists physicians and surgical teams throughout surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging equipment and instruments, and anticipating the needs of the sterile team.
Key Responsibilities - Applies knowledge of basic surgical technician duties, including normal and pathological anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology. - Identifies medications and solutions by name, dosage, and expiration date, and communicates this information to the registered nurse and surgeon. - Applies principles of asepsis and sterile technique to maintain a sterile field and provide optimal patient care. - Performs surgical scrubbing, gowning, and gloving according to established protocols. - Assists with skin preparation and patient draping. - Cares for, prepares, and maintains sterile and unsterile supplies and equipment. - Updates surgeon's preference lists. - Differentiates and applies appropriate sterilization methods for instruments and equipment. - Cleans and sterilizes contaminated instruments, equipment, and supplies. - Operates sterilizing apparatus safely and maintains accurate documentation. - Demonstrates knowledge of surgical procedures and dexterity in using required instrumentation. - Performs accurate sharps, sponge, and instrument counts. - Anticipates the needs of the surgeon to expedite procedures and minimize patient stress. - Identifies emergency situations and responds calmly and efficiently according to established procedures. - Adheres to Standard Precautions, Infection Control policies, and facility policies and procedures.
Schedule / Shift Monday - Friday Day Shift 8-hour shifts (specific start times may vary between 06:15 - 07:00)
Required Qualifications - Current Surgical Technologist certification
Experience - Experience in an outpatient surgery center setting is preferred.
Skills - Knowledge of basic surgical procedures and instrumentation. - Proficiency in sterile technique and principles of asepsis. - Ability to anticipate surgeon's needs and anticipate instrument requirements. - Dexterity in handling surgical instruments. - Knowledge of sterilization methods and equipment. - Effective communication and teamwork skills. - Ability to maintain composure in emergency situations. - Understanding of anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology relevant to surgical procedures. - Adherence to safety and infection control protocols.
