Job Summary
The Registered Nurse – Psych provides patient-centered care on a combined Psychiatry and Medical-Surgical (MS) floor. This role requires expertise in both psychiatric nursing and medical-surgical care, ensuring safe and effective treatment for patients with complex behavioral and medical needs. The RN collaborates with physicians, tele-techs, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to patients with psychiatric and medical-surgical conditions.
- Collaborate with tele-techs for remote telemetry monitoring.
- Perform and interpret 12-lead EKGs as part of patient assessment.
- Administer medications and monitor patient responses.
- Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in compliance with hospital standards.
- Ensure patient safety and maintain therapeutic environments.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
- Support crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques when necessary.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited program.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice or Compact RN License (eNLC).
- Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience with psychiatric and medical-surgical patients.
- Strong knowledge of psychiatric nursing practices and medical-surgical procedures.
- Ability to work collaboratively with tele-techs and interdisciplinary teams.
- Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Prior experience in combined Psych/Med-Surg units.
- Experience in telemetry monitoring.
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – required.
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) – required.
