Job Summary
The Surgical Technician is responsible for preparing the operating room, maintaining a sterile environment, and assisting surgeons and the surgical team during operative procedures. This role ensures the availability of surgical instruments and supplies, supports patient safety, and adheres to infection prevention, regulatory, and organizational standards throughout the surgical process.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare operating rooms with the necessary instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies for surgical procedures.
• Set up and maintain sterile fields throughout surgical procedures.
• Assist surgeons, registered nurses, and other members of the surgical team during operations.
• Pass surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment to surgeons during procedures.
• Perform instrument, sponge, and needle counts according to established protocols.
• Prepare, inspect, and operate surgical instruments and equipment to ensure proper functionality.
• Assist with patient positioning, preparation, and transfer while maintaining patient safety.
• Handle and label surgical specimens according to established procedures.
• Clean, sterilize, and restock surgical instruments and operating rooms after procedures.
• Monitor and maintain inventory of surgical instruments and supplies.
• Adhere to infection prevention, aseptic technique, and patient safety standards.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary surgical team to ensure efficient workflow and quality patient care.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
• Knowledge of surgical procedures, anatomy, aseptic technique, and sterile processing.
• Experience assisting in surgical procedures within an operating room environment.
• Knowledge of surgical instruments, equipment, and operating room protocols.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and assist with patient movement as required.
Preferred Qualifications
• Previous experience as a Surgical Technician in a hospital or ambulatory surgery center.
• Experience assisting with multiple surgical specialties.
• Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and surgical documentation.
Certifications
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
Note: Travel Experience Required.
