  • Job Summary
    The Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to patients who require close monitoring and advanced clinical support but do not require intensive care services. The RN utilizes critical thinking, clinical expertise, and evidence-based practices to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care and promote positive patient outcomes.

    Key Responsibilities
    1. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care for PCU patients.
    2. Monitor cardiac rhythms, vital signs, respiratory status, and overall patient condition.
    3. Administer medications, intravenous therapies, blood products, and prescribed treatments.
    4. Identify and respond promptly to changes in patient condition and escalating care needs.
    5. Utilize telemetry monitoring and interpret clinical data to support treatment decisions.
    6. Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, case managers, and other healthcare professionals.
    7. Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
    8. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
    9. Ensure compliance with patient safety standards, infection prevention protocols, and regulatory requirements.
    10. Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, quality improvement initiatives, and departmental activities.
    Required Qualifications
    • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state.
    • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
    • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in PCU, Telemetry, Step-Down, ICU, or Acute Care nursing preferred.
    • Ability to interpret cardiac rhythms and recognize signs of patient deterioration.
    • Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
    • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) systems.
    Preferred Qualifications
    1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
    2. Previous experience in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Step-Down Unit, Telemetry Unit, or Critical Care setting.
    3. Experience caring for patients with cardiac, respiratory, and complex medical conditions.
    4. Knowledge of evidence-based nursing practices and advanced patient monitoring techniques.
    Certifications
    1. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
    2. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
    3. Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) Certification, preferred.
