Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Phlebotomist I to join our healthcare team.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in specimen collection, handling, and processing, with a strong understanding of safety protocols and patient care.
This role involves working with pediatric and geriatric patients and requires attention to detail and adherence to established procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws and other specimen collections (e.g., urine, fecal) following established procedures.
- Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process to patients.
- Demonstrate proficiency in using straight and butterfly needles.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
- Package and store specimens according to required temperature and protocol to maintain integrity.
- Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures.
- Update patient information accurately in the system.
- Ensure 100% accuracy in checking test requisitions or computer labels against physician scripts.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a phlebotomist, including work with pediatric and geriatric patients.
- Valid Phlebotomist license in the state.
- Proficient in using straight and butterfly needles and handling color-coded tubes.
- At least 2 years of experience with blood draws and venipunctures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in clinical or hospital settings.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Certifications
- Phlebotomist License – Required in the state of Washington.
