JOB SUMMARY
The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Medical Surgical provides direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or physician in a medical-surgical unit. This role involves supporting patients recovering from surgery or managing acute medical conditions, ensuring comfort, safety, and timely interventions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with patient assessments and report changes in condition to supervising RN or physician.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
- Monitor vital signs and maintain accurate patient records.
- Provide wound care, catheter care, and other routine procedures.
- Support patients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and mobility.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care.
- Educate patients and families on post-operative care and discharge instructions.
- Maintain compliance with infection control and safety protocols.
Required Qualifications
- Valid and active LVN or LPN license.
- Completion of an accredited vocational or practical nursing program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in a medical-surgical or acute care setting.
Certifications
IV Certification (if required by state or facility).
