Job Summary
The Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) provides specialized respiratory care to patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions. This role involves assessing, treating, and monitoring patients requiring respiratory therapy, ensuring adherence to physician orders, clinical protocols, and regulatory standards. The CRT plays a vital role in patient recovery and quality of life by delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patients’ respiratory status and recommend appropriate therapy plans.
- Administer respiratory treatments, including oxygen therapy, aerosol medications, and chest physiotherapy.
- Operate and maintain ventilators, oxygen delivery systems, and other respiratory equipment.
- Perform diagnostic procedures such as arterial blood gas analysis and pulmonary function testing.
- Monitor patient responses to therapy and adjust treatment plans as needed.
- Educate patients and families on respiratory care techniques, equipment use, and disease management.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient assessments, treatments, and progress.
- Ensure compliance with infection control, safety, and quality assurance standards.
- Participate in continuing education and professional development activities.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or equivalent.
- Current Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- Valid state license to practice respiratory therapy (as applicable).
- Strong knowledge of respiratory care techniques, equipment, and safety protocols.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, high-acuity environments.
- Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
Preferred Qualifications (if any)
- Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field.
- Prior experience in acute care, ICU, or emergency settings.
- Familiarity with advanced ventilator management and critical care procedures.
Certifications (if any)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
- NBRC Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential (required).
