Job Summary
The Pharmacist ensures the safe, accurate, and efficient dispensing of medications in a long-term care pharmacy setting. This role requires strong clinical interpretation skills, excellent communication, and a commitment to patient safety. The pharmacist will provide routine and emergency drug screening, information, processing, and dispensing services to support patient care and pharmacy management objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate entry and verification of prescription orders
- Maintain security and compliance within the pharmacy
- Adhere to required delivery schedules and timelines
- Verify technician-entered orders for accuracy and completeness
- Check content and precision of all new and refill labels and orders
- Oversee drug packaging and labeling for accuracy
- Prepare and/or supervise sterile IV drug products or solutions, as required
- Assist in maintaining perpetual inventory for Schedule II drugs
- Apply knowledge of DEA and state laws regarding controlled drug dispensing
- Provide coverage during evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and all applicable state/federal regulations
- Perform routine and emergency drug screening, processing, and dispensing services
- Support pharmacy management objectives and contribute to continuous improvement
Education
- Required: Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy
Required Skills & Experience
- Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
- Current license to practice pharmacy in good standing
- Proficiency in clinical interpretation: drug-drug, drug-disease, drug-food interactions, and allergy management
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to dispense medications accurately and efficiently
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Excellent customer service orientation and professional demeanor
Certifications & Licensure
- Active pharmacist license in good standing
- Compliance with DEA and state regulations for controlled substances
