  • Job Summary
    The Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer (Echo Technologist) is responsible for performing high-quality echocardiographic examinations on pediatric patients, including neonates, infants, children, and adolescents. This role involves operating specialized ultrasound equipment to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of congenital and acquired heart diseases. The technologist ensures accurate imaging, patient safety, and compassionate care in a pediatric environment.

    Key Responsibilities
    1. Perform comprehensive transthoracic, transesophageal, and fetal echocardiograms as ordered by physicians.
    2. Acquire and analyze echocardiographic images to assist cardiologists in diagnostic interpretation.
    3. Adjust technical parameters to optimize image quality while minimizing patient discomfort.
    4. Prepare preliminary reports and document findings accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
    5. Assist cardiologists during stress echocardiography and other diagnostic procedures as needed.
    6. Maintain ultrasound equipment, perform routine quality assurance checks, and report malfunctions promptly.
    7. Adhere to infection control and patient safety protocols at all times.
    8. Provide compassionate care and clear communication to pediatric patients and their families.
    9. Participate in continuing education and professional development to stay current with evolving cardiac imaging techniques.

    Required Qualifications
    1. Completion of an accredited Cardiac Sonography or Echocardiography program.
    2. Active Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) certification.
    3. Pediatric or congenital cardiac imaging experience required.
    4. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
    5. Strong technical skills and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced pediatric environment.

    Preferred Qualifications
    1. Pediatric Echocardiography (PE) specialty certification from ARDMS or equivalent.
    2. Experience in a pediatric hospital or children’s cardiac care unit.
    3. Familiarity with advanced imaging modalities (e.g., 3D echocardiography, strain imaging).
    4. Knowledge of Epic or other EMR systems.
    Certifications
    1. RDCS (PE) or RCS (PE) strongly preferred.
    2. BLS required; PALS certification preferred.
