  • Job Summary
    The Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Specialist works with patients diagnosed with cardiovascular and respiratory conditions such as asthma, emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), angina, coronary artery disease, and post–heart attack recovery. This role focuses on helping patients understand their conditions, manage risk factors, and implement individualized exercise and lifestyle modification programs to improve overall health and quality of life.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Patient Education & Counseling
    • Educate patients about their medical conditions and prescribed treatment plans.
    • Explain when patients can safely resume normal activities after illness or procedures.
    • Identify personal risk factors such as hypertension, smoking, poor diet, and obesity that may contribute to health problems.
    • Provide guidance on cardiac and pulmonary health topics, including nutrition, smoking cessation, and physical activity.
    • Support and motivate patients to make sustainable lifestyle changes that reduce health risks.
    • Exercise Program Development & Monitoring
    • Design and monitor individualized exercise programs tailored to each patient’s condition and capabilities.
    • Adjust exercise prescriptions and workloads based on clinical judgment and patient progress.
    • Identify abnormal heart rhythms or responses to exercise and take immediate, appropriate action, including emergency procedures if necessary.
    • Clinical Collaboration & Documentation
    • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.
    • Accurately document patient progress, assessments, and interventions using proper medical terminology and established protocols.

    Safety & Compliance
    • Follow established safety protocols, including National Patient Safety Goals and infection control standards.
    • Take immediate corrective action (“Stop the Line”) if patient safety is compromised.
    • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations at all times.
    • Professional Development & Organizational Standards
    • Participate in mandatory educational programs, annual training, and department meetings.
    • Demonstrate professionalism by adhering to organizational values, dress code, and behavioral standards.
    • Engage in performance improvement and continuous quality initiatives to support departmental goals.
    • Maintain effective communication and positive working relationships with patients, staff, and vendors.

    Required Education / Licensure / Certification
    • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification – required (or obtained within 90 days of hire).

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology or a related field.
    • One (1) year of experience in Cardiac and/or Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

    Certifications
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Preferred
