  • JOB SUMMARY
    This position will provide essential support to the Necropsy and Histology group, assisting technical personnel in general laboratory operations and routine tasks. The role involves maintaining laboratory facilities and equipment according to established standards to ensure the integrity of experimental results. Responsibilities include performing tasks in accordance with accepted methods and prescribed training. Over time, with provided training, there is a potential to transition into a Necropsy/Histology Technician role.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Set up, provide support during, and clean up after necropsies.
    • Provide necropsy and histology lab support, including solution changes, printing slides/cassettes, operating staining machines, weighing tissues, and preparing specimens for shipment.
    • Euthanize laboratory animals humanely.
    • Observe and record data such as animal weights and physical characteristics.
    • Observe and record facility and equipment measurements, such as weights and temperatures.
    • Work collaboratively as part of a team to ensure the timely, efficient, accurate, and precise production of histological slides.
    • Operate, clean, and maintain facilities and equipment following standard operating procedures.
    • Order, receive, decontaminate, and store equipment and consumables, and stock laboratory cabinets.
    • Prepare reagents and solutions, and manage the disposal of biological and/or chemical waste.
    • Adhere to EPA regulations, protocols, Standard Operating Procedures, and Good Laboratory Practices.
    • If transitioning into the Necropsy/Histology Technician role, perform routine and special rodent necropsies and/or routine and special histology procedures.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Science degree (Animal Sciences or Biology preferred).
    • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
    • Ability to contribute to a team environment, treating and listening to others with respect and using professional language.
    • Ability to recognize non-routine or unusual circumstances and obtain advice from appropriate personnel.
    • Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete assignments to stated specifications.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to contribute to a safe working environment.
    • Computer skills commensurate with Essential Functions, including the ability to learn a validated system.
    • General chemistry, biology, and mathematics skills.
    • Ability to function independently with minimal supervision and take initiative.

    • Flexibility and willingness to obtain new knowledge and skills.
    • Willingness to handle laboratory animals.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Rate/Mouse handling experience.
