Job Summary
The Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner (OHNP) provides advanced clinical care to employees, focusing on health promotion, workplace safety, injury prevention, and management of occupational and non-occupational illnesses. This role conducts assessments, performs medical evaluations, oversees return-to-work processes, and collaborates with safety, HR, and leadership teams to support overall employee health and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct employee health assessments, physical examinations, and medical evaluations.
- Diagnose and manage work-related injuries and illnesses, providing treatment, referrals, and follow-up care.
- Oversee return-to-work and case management processes, including work restrictions and accommodations.
- Perform health screenings such as audiometry, vision testing, respiratory assessments, and vaccine administration.
- Maintain accurate and confidential medical records in accordance with legal and regulatory standards.
- Provide health education and counseling to employees on wellness, injury prevention, and chronic disease management.
- Collaborate with safety and HR teams to identify workplace hazards and support safety initiatives.
- Assist in the development and implementation of occupational health policies, procedures, and compliance programs.
- Manage emergency medical situations and provide first aid or triage as needed.
- Participate in wellness programs, surveillance initiatives, and regulatory reporting.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree or Doctorate in Nursing (MSN/DNP) with Nurse Practitioner certification.
- Current and unrestricted state Nurse Practitioner (NP) license.
- Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in occupational health, primary care, urgent care, or related clinical setting.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA guidelines, workplace safety practices, and occupational health regulations.
- Excellent assessment, clinical decision-making, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications (if any)
- Experience in corporate, industrial, or manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with workers’ compensation processes and case management.
- Training in emergency response or advanced triage.
Certifications (if any)
- Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner (e.g., FNP, ANP, or Occupational Health NP).
- Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), if required by facility.
- COHN or COHN-S (Certified Occupational Health Nurse / Specialist), preferred but not required.
