Job Summary
The Registered Nurse in the Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (CPCU) provides specialized care for cardiac step-down patients, including those recovering from heart catheterization, managing cardiac drips, and post-operative open-heart surgery. This role requires expertise in cardiac nursing with the ability to adapt to fluctuating patient census and occasional floating to other units during low volumes or coverage crises. There is no regular on-call requirement; however, rare call days may be assigned during staffing fluctuations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to cardiac step-down patients, including heart cath recovery, management of cardiac drips, and post-op open heart patients.
- Monitor and manage cardiac and medical-surgical step-down patients.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Utilize Epic EMR system for documentation and patient care management.
- Float to other units as needed during times of low patient volume or staffing shortages.
- Participate in patient care planning, assessment, and evaluation.
Required Qualifications
- Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the s cardiac step-down nursing experience within the past 2 years.
- Proficient in managing open-heart patients, ventilators, and cardiac drips.
- Experience with Epic Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
