Job Summary
The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) practices at the level of a clinically competent to proficient practitioner of respiratory care. This role involves providing care for patients with emergency, acute, and intensive care needs with minimal guidance. The RRT demonstrates clinical leadership by contributing to standards of care, supporting department goals, and serving as a role model for staff. They act as a preceptor for new employees and actively participate in initiatives to advance respiratory care knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver respiratory care services under the direction of physicians/clinicians and in accordance with organizational policies and American Association of Respiratory Care Clinical Practice Guidelines.
- Provide respiratory care to patients in emergency, acute, and intensive care settings.
- Serve as a role model and mentor to staff, including precepting new employees.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental standards of care.
- Demonstrate leadership in clinical practice and support departmental goals.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree with a certificate of completion in respiratory care from an accredited program OR technical diploma from a respiratory care program.
- Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) through the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) through the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- Valid license to practice respiratory care in the state of Pennsylvania.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications (if any)
- Registered Respiratory Therapist-Neonatal Pediatric Specialty (RRT-NPS) through NBRC (preferred within 24 months of start date).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Certifications (if any)
- CRT (Certified Respiratory Therapist) – NBRC.
- RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) – NBRC.
- BLS (Basic Life Support).
- RRT-NPS (Neonatal Pediatric Specialty) – NBRC (preferred).
