Job Summary
Responsible for receiving, processing, and documenting biological specimens, primarily tissue samples, for diagnostic or research purposes.
Ensures proper specimen identification, handling, and preparation in compliance with strict protocols and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive specimens from various sources and verify identification with patient demographics and test orders.
- Prepare tissue specimens for analysis, including washing, trimming, and embedding in paraffin or other media.
- Enter specimen information accurately into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Maintain organized and secure storage of specimens in appropriate containers and environments.
- Follow quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability of specimen processing.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with pathologists, laboratory technicians, and other healthcare professionals.
- Identify and resolve issues such as mislabeling, incomplete documentation, or inadequate specimen quality.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in specimen processing or a clinical laboratory setting.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to follow protocols, safety regulations, and quality standards.
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in anatomical pathology specimen handling.
- Background in histology or related biomedical field.
Certifications
- None required, though relevant laboratory or histology certifications are a plus.
