Job Summary
The Registered Nurse in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) provides specialized nursing care for critically ill patients requiring intensive monitoring and treatment. This role demands strong clinical skills, critical thinking, and the ability to work efficiently in a high-acuity environment. The MICU nurse collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver exceptional patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, monitor, and manage critically ill patients with complex medical conditions.
- Administer medications, intravenous therapies, and other treatments according to physician orders.
- Utilize advanced monitoring equipment to track vital signs and patient status continuously.
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations and provide life-saving interventions as needed.
- Educate patients and families about medical conditions, treatments, and post-discharge care.
- Document all patient care activities accurately and timely in electronic medical records.
- Maintain strict adherence to infection control, safety protocols, and hospital policies.
Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Prior experience in an Intensive Care Unit or critical care setting.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Proficient in use of ICU equipment and technology.
- Ability to handle high-stress situations with professionalism and composure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Critical Care Nursing (CCRN) or equivalent.
- Experience with ventilator management and advanced cardiac life support.
- Knowledge of electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
Certifications
- Valid RN license.
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications preferred.
