Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Gastrointestinal/Endoscopy Technician to support physicians and nurses in performing endoscopic procedures. The technician plays a vital role in preparing procedure rooms, maintaining equipment, and ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout the endoscopy process.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare procedure rooms by setting up endoscopy equipment and supplies according to established protocols.
- Assist physicians and nurses during endoscopic procedures, ensuring proper handling of instruments and patient care.
- Clean, disinfect, and sterilize endoscopy equipment and instruments in accordance with infection control standards.
- Monitor and document vital signs and patient responses during procedures as needed.
- Maintain accurate logs, procedure documentation, and equipment maintenance records.
- Ensure timely availability and proper functioning of all endoscopy-related tools and instruments.
- Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients undergoing procedures.
- Adhere to hospital policies, safety procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited Endoscopy Technician or Surgical Technician training program
- At least 1 year of experience in an endoscopy or surgical setting
- Knowledge of endoscopic equipment, sterilization techniques, and procedural protocols
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in a healthcare-related field
- Experience with both upper and lower GI procedures
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required)
- Certified Endoscopy Technician (CET) or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) (preferred)
