  • Job Summary
    We are seeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Clerk for a contract position in Needham, Massachusetts. The successful candidate will support laboratory operations by handling and processing patient specimens, maintaining accurate documentation, ensuring specimen integrity, and assisting with laboratory equipment and shipping procedures. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of laboratory specimen handling protocols.
    M-F 7:00-3:30pm

    Key Responsibilities
    1. Oversee the in-house handling and processing of laboratory specimens, including blood, urine, body fluids, and other sample types.
    2. Ensure proper specimen collection containers are utilized and labeling requirements are strictly followed.
    3. Prepare specimens for testing, storage, and transport according to established laboratory procedures.
    4. Operate centrifuges and other laboratory equipment as required.
    5. Store and ship specimens at appropriate temperatures and within required timeframes.
    6. Monitor automation equipment to ensure proper functionality and report any issues as needed.
    7. Maintain accurate tracking documentation for all laboratory specimens and samples.
    8. Log specimens into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and enter patient and specimen information accurately.
    9. Review incoming specimens to verify identification, integrity, and compliance with laboratory requirements.
    10. Identify, evaluate, and resolve specimen identification and integrity issues during accessioning and receipt processes.
    11. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of specimen handling, storage, and processing requirements.
    12. Ensure compliance with laboratory policies, procedures, and quality standards.

    Required Qualifications
    1. High School Diploma or equivalent certification (GED, HiSET, TASC, or equivalent) from an accredited institution or governmental agency.
    2. Minimum of 1 year of laboratory experience.
    3. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling patient and specimen information.
    4. Ability to maintain organized records and documentation.
    5. Basic computer skills and experience entering information into laboratory or healthcare systems.
    6. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

    Preferred Qualifications
    1. Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Phlebotomist.
    2. Experience working with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) or healthcare databases.
    3. Knowledge of specimen accessioning, processing, and shipping procedures.
    4. Previous experience in a clinical laboratory, hospital, or diagnostic setting.

    Certifications
    1. Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
    2. Other laboratory-related certifications are a plus.
