Job Summary
The Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical/Telemetry Stroke provides specialized nursing care to patients diagnosed with both neurological and cardiac conditions, including congestive heart failure and acute stroke. Working in a 42-bed Heart Failure/Stroke Unit with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio, the RN delivers safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care in collaboration with cardiologists, neurologists, and interdisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, monitor, and document patient conditions, including vital signs and neurological/cardiac status.
- Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments as prescribed.
- Provide direct patient care for individuals with complex neuro-cardiac conditions.
- Monitor patients using telemetry equipment and respond to abnormal rhythms or emergencies.
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare team members to coordinate patient care.
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions.
- Maintain accurate documentation in electronic medical records (EMR).
- Adhere to infection control, safety protocols, and hospital policies.
- Support patient comfort and communication using professional standards.
Required Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
- Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to manage multiple patients in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications (if any)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Prior experience in stroke or cardiac specialty units.
- Excellent communication and patient education skills.
Certifications (if any)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – required (AHA or Red Cross).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – required.
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification – required.
- Active Registered Nurse license in the State or Compact license (no temporary licenses accepted; NURSYS verification required).
