Job Summary
• Support pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications
• Ensure accurate patient medication records and compliance with regulatory standards
• Deliver services efficiently across various pharmacy settings, including specialty and ambulatory care areas
Key Responsibilities
• Assist pharmacists with collecting accurate medication histories
• Train and mentor Pharmacy Technician I associates
• Prepare drug orders per physician request in line with established policies, procedures, and protocols
• Verify computerized patient medication records for accuracy and completeness
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient drug records
• Compound pharmaceuticals, including non-sterile, sterile, chemotherapy, and parenteral nutrition products
• Issue controlled substances to patient care areas and maintain records per legal and institutional requirements
• Provide timely and efficient pharmacy services
• Verify daily departmental activities are complete and properly documented
• Maintain required job competencies for current title/position
• Maintain an active pharmacy technician license and continuing education (CE) records
• Attend staff meetings regularly
• Maintain IV certification and required competencies
• Complete all assigned competency and skills assessments
• Serve as a technician in specialty areas such as the operating room, IV room, or satellite pharmacy areas
• Support ambulatory pharmaceutical care services, including but not limited to anticoagulation clinics, intensive medical home, transitions of care, and discharge medication reconciliation
• Perform outpatient retail pharmacy tasks, including entering prescription orders, selecting correct medications, and coordinating delivery for patient pick-up or shipment
Required Qualifications
• 2–3 years of relevant pharmacy technician experience
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Ability to work accurately in a fast-paced healthcare environment
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in multiple pharmacy settings (hospital, ambulatory care, retail)
• Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems
Certifications
• Maryland (MD) Pharmacy Technician License
• PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) Certification
• BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification
