Job Summary
The Registered Nurse – Endoscopy provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. This role involves preparing patients, assisting physicians during procedures, monitoring patient status, and ensuring safe recovery. The RN collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer medications and sedation as prescribed.
- Assist physicians during endoscopic procedures, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Monitor patient vital signs and status throughout procedures and recovery.
- Provide post-procedure care, including discharge instructions and patient/family education.
- Maintain accurate documentation in electronic medical records (EMR).
- Adhere to infection control and safety protocols.
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare team members to coordinate patient care.
- Manage supplies, equipment, and ensure proper sterilization of instruments.
Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
- Assess patient conditions and prepare them for endoscopic procedures.
- Strong clinical assessment and patient monitoring skills.
- Excellent communication and patient education abilities.
Preferred Qualifications (if any)
- Prior experience in an endoscopy or gastroenterology unit.
- Familiarity with sedation protocols and recovery monitoring.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Certifications (if any)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – preferred.
- Certification in Gastroenterology Nursing (CGRN) – preferred.
