Job Summary:
The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and maintenance of surgical instruments and equipment. This role ensures all instruments meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and infection control in accordance with ANSI/AAMI standards, manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFUs), and company procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Follow all ANSI/AAMI standards, manufacturer IFUs, SOPs, and company Work Instructions
- Decontaminate used surgical instruments and equipment using proper PPE and approved protocols
- Disassemble, clean, and reassemble complex surgical instruments
- Assemble and package instrument trays and sets accurately per established guidelines
- Operate washers, sterilizers, and other sterile processing equipment safely and effectively
- Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and damage prior to packaging
- Document missing or damaged instruments in accordance with SOPs
- Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, instrument tracking, and inventory
- Handle all instruments and customer-owned items with care to prevent damage
- Complete daily computer tasks and paperwork related to processing and tracking
- Monitor and maintain instrument and supply inventory levels
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of sterilization equipment
- Keep workstations and decontamination areas clean and organized
- Adhere to company quality standards and infection control procedures
- Communicate effectively with internal team members, operations staff, and distribution teams
- Provide feedback and suggest workflow and process improvements
- Participate in ongoing training to maintain certifications and competencies
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
Required Skills:
- Minimum of one (1) year of hands-on sterile processing experience
- General knowledge of surgical instruments and sterile processing protocols
- Knowledge of sterilization techniques, including steam sterilization and infection control practices
- Familiarity with ANSI/AAMI standards and manufacturer IFUs
- Ability to operate washer disinfectors, autoclaves, and related equipment
- Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to read and follow detailed Work Instructions and SOPs
- Basic computer and electronic data system proficiency
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
