Job Summary
The Nurse Manager is responsible for overseeing daily clinical operations, ensuring high-quality patient care, and leading nursing staff within the assigned unit. This role provides strategic direction, supervision, coaching, and administrative support while maintaining regulatory compliance and fostering a positive, collaborative work environment. The Nurse Manager works closely with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient outcomes, operational efficiency, and overall unit performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, supervision, and mentorship to nursing and support staff
- Oversee daily operations of the unit, ensuring staffing adequacy and workflow efficiency
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and quality improvement initiatives
- Monitor patient care quality, compliance, and safety standards
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to support patient-centered care
- Conduct performance evaluations, staff coaching, and corrective action as needed
- Manage scheduling, timekeeping, and resource allocation
- Assist with budget planning, cost control, and supply management
- Support onboarding, training, and development of nursing personnel
- Use data and metrics to drive improvements in clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction
- Address patient and family concerns professionally and promptly
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements
Required Qualifications
- Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
- Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical RN experience
- Minimum of 1–2 years of leadership or charge nurse experience
- Strong knowledge of clinical workflows, patient care standards, and regulatory guidelines
- Exceptional leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications (if any)
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or related healthcare leadership degree
- Previous Nurse Manager or Assistant Manager experience
- Experience in the unit specialty (e.g., Med-Surg, Telemetry, ICU, ER)
- Experience with performance improvement projects or hospital operations
Certifications (if any)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) — required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) — preferred or required depending on unit
- PALS, NIHSS, or specialty certifications — preferred
- Leadership certifications (e.g., NE-BC, NEA-BC, CENP) — preferred
