Job Summary:
The CVOR Registered Nurse is a critical member of the surgical team, specializing in the care of patients undergoing cardiovascular surgeries. This role involves preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative responsibilities, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety, sterile technique, and surgical support in the operating room.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care before, during, and after cardiovascular surgical procedures.
- Assist the surgical team by preparing the operating room, instruments, and equipment.
- Monitor patient status, vital signs, and anesthesia levels throughout surgical procedures.
- Maintain sterile technique and enforce infection control practices during surgeries.
- Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other OR personnel.
- Document all aspects of patient care accurately and in a timely manner.
- Ensure all surgical instruments and equipment are properly handled, cleaned, and maintained.
- Act as a circulating or scrub nurse as needed, depending on the case and team needs.
- Respond swiftly and effectively in emergency situations within the OR.
Required Qualifications:
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in an operating room or cardiovascular surgical setting.
- Strong understanding of cardiovascular anatomy, surgical procedures, and OR protocols.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to stand for long periods and respond calmly in high-stress situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Experience specifically in cardiovascular or cardiothoracic surgery.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
Certifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) certification preferred.
