Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to support healthcare providers by delivering both clinical and administrative patient care services. This role is responsible for assisting physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff with patient care, maintaining accurate medical records, coordinating patient flow, and ensuring a positive patient experience. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical skills, excellent communication abilities, and experience working in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist healthcare providers with clinical and non-clinical patient care activities.
- Room patients, prepare examination rooms, and ensure necessary equipment is available.
- Obtain and document patient medical histories, vital signs, height, weight, and other clinical information in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Educate patients on treatment plans, medications, physician instructions, and dietary recommendations.
- Provide educational materials to reinforce patient care instructions.
- Assist with scheduling appointments, managing patient flow, and coordinating care.
- Perform general administrative duties, including answering phones, completing insurance forms, and maintaining patient records.
- Collect blood, tissue, and other laboratory specimens; prepare and label specimens for testing.
- Perform phlebotomy as qualified and assigned.
- Maintain inventory of immunizations and monitor expiration dates.
- Administer immunizations, when qualified through certification or appropriate experience and under provider supervision.
- Support departmental quality initiatives, including patient identification protocols and hand hygiene compliance.
- Assist with onboarding and mentoring junior Medical Assistants.
- Serve as a liaison between patients and healthcare teams while delivering excellent customer service.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Comply with all organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 1–2 years of direct Medical Assistant experience or experience working in a medical/clinical environment.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced clinical setting.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, clinical procedures, and healthcare protocols.
- Ability to obtain and accurately record vital signs, including manual blood pressure.
- Experience collecting blood samples and other laboratory specimens.
- Proficiency using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and medical office software.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all local, state, and federal privacy regulations.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential.
- Experience administering immunizations.
- Experience mentoring or training Medical Assistants.
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification – Preferred.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – Preferred.
- Immunization administration certification or a minimum of three years of vaccine administration experience (as applicable).
