Job Summary
The Pharmacy Tech I – Filling Technician is responsible for accurately selecting, packaging, and labeling medications under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. This role supports pharmacy operations by maintaining inventory, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and contributing to efficient workflow in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Select, pick, package, and label medications and ancillary supplies per prescription.
- Accurately count medications using manual and automated counting devices.
- Restock the filling station with medications and supplies as needed.
- Handle hazardous medications and follow hand-sanitization procedures according to safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with production and regulatory requirements.
- Clean and maintain pill counters, equipment, and work areas.
- Assist Operations Assistant/Materials Coordinator with packing and shipping tasks.
- Adhere to pharmacy laws, guidelines, and safety-sensitive protocols.
- Support inventory control processes and contribute to efficient pharmacy workflow.
- Stand for extended periods (8–10 hours) and lift 5–10 lbs repeatedly; occasionally lift 30–50 lbs unassisted.
- Work near moving machinery (conveyors) and wear protective equipment when required.
Required Qualifications
- Verifiable High School Diploma or GED.
- Active State Pharmacy Technician License.
- Minimum 3 months of experience as a pharmacy technician.
- Basic knowledge of drug names, pharmacy terminology, and dispensing processes.
- Ability to use computers for accurate data entry.
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to follow direction.
- Understanding of role limitations and ability to escalate issues appropriately.
- Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
Preferred Qualifications (if any)
- Experience in pick/pack/ship environments.
- Familiarity with pharmacy workflow and dispensing processes.
Certifications (if any)
- National Pharmacy Technician Certification not accepted.
