JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Rehabilitation Services Director, the Staff Therapist is accountable for the administration of Physical Therapy to patients from pediatric to geriatric, with the goal of improving functional ability.

Key Responsibilities
• Assess and interpret evaluations and test results to determine physical therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription to meet patient goals and needs.
• Administer manual exercises and instruct, encourage, and assist patients in performing physical activities, including non-manual exercises, ambulatory functional activities, and daily-living activities.
• Assist patients in using assistive and supportive devices such as crutches, canes, and prostheses.
• Administer physical therapy treatments including massage, traction, physical agents, hydrotherapy, whirlpool baths, moist packs, ultraviolet and infrared lamps, and ultrasound machines.
• Direct treatments administered by aides, technicians, and assistants.
• Evaluate the effects of physical therapy treatments and the fit of prosthetic and orthotic devices by observing and noting patient progress, and recommend adjustments and modifications.
• Complete discharge planning by consulting with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare workers, and contributing to patient care conferences.
• Design home exercise programs, instruct patients, families, and caregivers in these programs, and recommend or provide assistive equipment and follow-up programs.
• Document patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and protect hospital operations.
• Maintain a safe and clean working environment and comply with procedures, rules, regulations, and infection-control policies.
• Ensure equipment operation by completing preventive maintenance, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, and calling for repairs.
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
• Develop physical therapy staff by providing information and conducting in-service training programs.
• Comply with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements.
• Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Required Qualifications
• Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions.
• Knowledge of human behavior and performance, individual differences, learning, motivation, and assessment/treatment of disorders.
• Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services, including needs assessment, quality standards, and satisfaction.
• Knowledge of the English language, including meaning, spelling, composition, and grammar.
• Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching, instruction, and measurement of training effects.

Certifications
• BLS required.

Experience
• Experience in physical therapy for pediatric to geriatric patients.

Skills
