  • Job Summary
    The Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with a wide range of medical conditions and those recovering from surgical procedures. This role assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care while collaborating with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure safe, high-quality, and patient-centered care.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
    • Monitor patient conditions, vital signs, and responses to treatment, reporting significant changes promptly.
    • Administer medications, intravenous (IV) therapies, blood products, and treatments in accordance with physician orders and organizational policies.
    • Prepare patients for diagnostic tests, procedures, and surgeries, and provide post-procedure care.
    • Perform wound care, dressing changes, and other clinical interventions.
    • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, discharge instructions, and disease management.
    • Collaborate with physicians, case managers, therapists, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate patient care.
    • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
    • Respond appropriately to emergencies and changes in patient condition.
    • Ensure compliance with infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory standards.
    • Supervise and delegate appropriate patient care activities to licensed practical nurses (LPNs) and nursing assistants, when applicable.
    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental activities.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications
    • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
    • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state.
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or ability to obtain within the required timeframe, if required by the facility.
    • Experience providing nursing care in a Medical-Surgical, Acute Care, or Hospital setting.
    • Strong knowledge of medical-surgical nursing practices and patient care standards.
    • Excellent clinical assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
    • Strong communication, interpersonal, and patient education skills.
    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple patients in a fast-paced environment.
    • Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
    • Previous experience in a Medical-Surgical or Acute Care unit.
    • Certification in Medical-Surgical Nursing (CMSRN) or Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (MEDSURG-BC).
    • Experience caring for patients with complex medical and post-operative conditions.

    Certifications

    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (if required)
    • Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (CMSRN) or MEDSURG-BC (preferred)
