JOB SUMMARY
The LVN/LPN – Medical Surgical Nurse provides direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or physician in a medical-surgical unit. This role involves assisting with patient assessments, administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and supporting patients through preand post-operative care. The LVN/LPN plays a key role in ensuring patient comfort, safety, and recovery while maintaining accurate documentation and collaborating with the healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and record patient vital signs and report abnormalities to supervising staff
- Assist with patient hygiene, mobility, and daily living activities
- Administer medications and injections as prescribed
- Change wound dressings and assist with other basic medical procedures
- Prepare patients for surgical procedures and assist in post-operative care
- Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation
- Collaborate with RNs and physicians to implement patient care plans
- Ensure adherence to infection control and safety protocols
Required Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program
- Current and valid LVN or LPN license
- Current CPR/BLS certification
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Basic knowledge of medical-surgical nursing practices
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a medical-surgical or acute care setting
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- IV Therapy Certification (if required by state regulations)
