  • Job Summary
    The Pharmacy Technician supports the Department of Pharmacy Services by preparing, compounding, and distributing medications under the supervision of licensed pharmacists. This role ensures safe and efficient medication handling, contributes to patient care, and maintains compliance with regulatory standards.

    Key Responsibilities
    1. Maintain proficiency in all areas of pharmacy technician responsibilities.
    2. Prepare medications in unit dose packaging and label using repackaging software.
    3. Perform routine rounds to patient care floors to deliver medications and supplies.
    4. Assess medication storage areas for outdated medications, cleanliness, and proper stocking.
    5. Fill automated dispensing machines using barcode technology.
    6. Support pharmacists in meeting the needs of institutional patients.
    7. Perform pharmaceutical dosage calculations for sterile and non-sterile preparations.
    8. Compound non-sterile preparations in accordance with  guidelines.
    9. Compound sterile preparations in accordance with USP  guidelines; replenish stock in compounding areas.
    10. Compound hazardous preparations in accordance with Uguidelines.
    11. Identify and dispose of outdated medications and patient-specific compounded preparations.
    12. Triages phone calls to appropriate pharmacy staff.
    13. Provide excellent customer service to nurses, physicians, and patients.
    14. Assist with orientation and training of new pharmacy technician staff.
    15. Restock emergency code cart trays and kits; maintain records.
    16. Refill and restock anesthesia medication trays; maintain records.
    17. Maintain neatness and organization of work area.
    18. Perform other duties as assigned by pharmacy supervisors or management.

    Required Qualifications
    1. Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
    2. Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
    3. National certification as a Pharmacy Technician.

    Preferred Qualifications
    1. Prior experience in hospital or institutional pharmacy settings.
    2. Familiarity with automated dispensing systems and barcode technology.

    Certifications (if any)
    1. National Pharmacy Technician Certification (required).
