JOB SUMMARY Assists surgical teams by preparing operating rooms, sterilizing equipment, and providing instruments and supplies during surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities • Assists in transportation and positioning of patients. • Prepares patient and room for planned surgical procedures. • Assembles and dismantles tables and instruments before and after procedures. • Opens sterile supplies and sets up for procedures. • Completes skin preparation and draping. • Assists the surgeon with gowning and gloving. • Assists the surgeon by passing instruments and suture. • Maintains correct counts of instruments, sutures, and sponges. • Applies dressings and bandages as needed. • Identifies, collects, and cares for specimens. • Decontaminates instruments (point of use cleaning), supplies, and equipment according to established policies and procedures. • Handles and stores instruments, equipment, and supplies appropriately. • Aids in the efficient turnover of the operating room for next cases. • Monitors and restocks supplies.
Schedule / Shift • 0800-1830, 4 days a week. • Rotating day off throughout the week. • Requires one weeknight and two weekend days per month for call requirements.
Required Qualifications • High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience • 6 months of technical experience, or specialized training for non-certified roles, or on-the-job and military training.
Certifications • Basic Life Support (BLS). • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification (if applicable).
Skills • Knowledge of sterile techniques and operating room procedures. • Ability to work effectively as part of a surgical team. • Strong attention to detail for instrument and sponge counts.
