  • Job Summary
    The Interventional Technologist is responsible for providing technical and clinical support during minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures performed in the Interventional Radiology (IR) Lab. This role operates specialized imaging equipment, assists physicians during procedures, maintains sterile technique, ensures patient safety, and contributes to the efficient operation of the department.

    The ideal candidate possesses strong imaging expertise, knowledge of interventional procedures, excellent patient care skills, and the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced procedural environment.

    Key Responsibilities
    1. Patient Care & Procedure Support
    2. Prepare patients for interventional radiology procedures by reviewing medical records, verifying patient identity, and explaining procedures.
    3. Position patients appropriately to ensure optimal imaging and procedural outcomes.
    4. Monitor patient condition throughout procedures and report any changes to the clinical team.
    5. Assist with patient transfers and positioning while maintaining safety and comfort.
    6. Provide compassionate patient care before, during, and after procedures.
    7. Interventional Procedure Assistance
    8. Assist physicians during a variety of interventional and vascular procedures.
    9. Prepare procedure rooms, supplies, equipment, instruments, and contrast media.
    10. Establish and maintain sterile fields throughout procedures.
    11. Anticipate procedural needs and provide technical assistance to physicians and clinical staff.
    12. Assist with emergency procedures and critical patient situations when necessary.
    13. Imaging Equipment Operation
    14. Operate fluoroscopy and other radiologic imaging equipment to obtain high-quality images.
    15. Perform imaging procedures in accordance with department protocols and physician requirements.
    16. Ensure image quality, accuracy, and proper documentation of all procedures.
    17. Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and report malfunctions promptly.
    18. Participate in quality assurance activities related to imaging equipment.
    19. Radiation Safety & Compliance
    20. Adhere to radiation protection standards and ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles.
    21. Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and radiation monitoring devices.
    22. Maintain compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and department standards.
    23. Follow infection prevention and control protocols at all times.
    24. Accurately document procedural details and patient information.
    25. Inventory & Department Support
    26. Maintain inventory of supplies, catheters, guidewires, contrast media, and procedure-related materials.
    27. Assist with stocking and organizing procedure rooms.
    28. Support departmental quality improvement initiatives.
    29. Participate in ongoing education and competency training programs.

    Required Qualifications
    1. Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
    2. Current ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification.
    3. Current state Radiologic Technologist license, if required by state regulations.
    4. Knowledge of interventional radiology procedures, anatomy, physiology, and imaging principles.
    5. Experience operating fluoroscopic and radiographic imaging equipment.
    6. Strong patient care and communication skills.
    7. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
    8. Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR), PACS, and imaging systems.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Previous experience in:
    1. Interventional Radiology (IR)
    2. Cardiac Catheterization Lab (Cath Lab)
    3. Special Procedures
    4. Vascular Imaging
    5. Experience assisting with vascular, neurovascular, and minimally invasive image-guided procedures.
    6. Advanced knowledge of sterile technique and procedural workflows.
    7. Bachelor's Degree in Radiologic Sciences or a related healthcare field.
    8. Experience in an acute care hospital setting.

    Certifications (If Any)
    1. ARRT Certification (Required)
    2. State Radiologic Technologist License (if applicable)
    3. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (Required)
    4. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification (Preferred or Required per facility)
    5. ARRT Vascular Interventional Radiography [VI] Certification (Preferred)
    6. Additional Interventional Radiology or Cardiovascular specialty certifications are a plus.
