Job Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Emergency Room I provides direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or physician in a fast-paced emergency department setting. This role is responsible for supporting emergency room operations by performing clinical and administrative tasks, ensuring high-quality, compassionate care for patients experiencing urgent or emergent health conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist RNs and physicians in the delivery of patient care in the Emergency Department (ED).
- Obtain and document vital signs, medical histories, and patient information accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Prepare patients for examinations, treatments, and diagnostic procedures.
- Administer medications and injections as directed and within the scope of LPN practice.
- Perform wound care, specimen collection, and other technical nursing procedures as delegated.
- Monitor patient conditions and promptly report changes to supervising RN or physician.
- Assist with patient triage, transport, and discharge instructions as appropriate.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment in accordance with infection control and safety standards.
- Ensure proper handling and labeling of laboratory specimens.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure timely and effective patient care.
- Participate in quality improvement and performance enhancement activities within the department.
- Provide emotional support and education to patients and families regarding treatment and care plans.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned by the nurse manager or charge nurse.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.
- Licensure: Active and unrestricted Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of employment.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of clinical nursing experience preferred; emergency or acute care experience strongly desired.
Skills:
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking abilities.

- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) documentation.
- Ability to multitask in high-stress, fast-paced environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in an emergency room, urgent care, or acute care setting.
- Familiarity with emergency procedures and triage protocols.
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – preferred.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – preferred (depending on facility requirements).
