Job Summary
The Cardiac Cath Lab Technologist assists physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac and vascular conditions through invasive and non-invasive procedures in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. This role involves operating complex imaging and monitoring equipment, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining sterile conditions throughout all procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare the cardiac catheterization lab and ensure all necessary equipment and supplies are available.
- Assist cardiologists during diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures, such as angioplasty, stent placement, and electrophysiology studies.
- Operate and monitor imaging equipment, hemodynamic systems, and other specialized devices during procedures.
- Prepare and administer contrast media or other medications as directed by physicians.
- Monitor patient vital signs and respond promptly to any changes in condition.
- Maintain sterile technique and adhere to all infection control and safety protocols.
- Document all procedures accurately in the electronic health record system.
- Perform post-procedure care and assist with patient recovery and transfer.
- Participate in quality assurance and equipment maintenance activities.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher in Cardiovascular Technology, Radiologic Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in a cardiac catheterization laboratory or related clinical environment.
- Strong knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, hemodynamics, and catheterization procedures.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and critical-thinking skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Cardiovascular Technology, Radiologic Science, or a related field.
- Experience with electrophysiology procedures or peripheral vascular interventions.
- Familiarity with PACS, EMR, and hemodynamic monitoring systems.
Certifications
- Current American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certification (RCIS or RCES).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
