Job Summary
We are looking for a compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse to provide specialized psychiatric nursing care to patients in a mental health setting. The RN-Psych will assess, plan, and implement individualized care plans to support patients’ mental health, safety, and recovery. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, clinical expertise, and the ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct psychiatric nursing assessments and develop individualized care plans.
- Monitor patients’ mental and physical status, administer medications, and provide therapeutic interventions.
- Support patients through counseling, crisis intervention, and education about mental health conditions.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care.
- Document patient progress, treatments, and behavioral observations accurately and timely in the EHR.
- Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment by adhering to safety protocols and managing potential risks.
- Educate patients and families on mental health management and discharge planning.
- Participate in staff training, meetings, and continuous quality improvement activities.
Required Qualifications
- Current and unrestricted RN license in the state of employment.
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Minimum of 1 year experience in psychiatric or mental health nursing preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Strong communication, critical thinking, and de-escalation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Experience working in inpatient or outpatient psychiatric settings.
- Certification in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing (PMHN) or equivalent.
- Knowledge of psychotropic medications and psychiatric care protocols.
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – required.
- Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification (PMHN) – preferred.
