JOB SUMMARY
Provide occupational therapy services to patients to help them develop, regain, or adjust to physical or mental functioning.

Key Responsibilities
• Assess and interpret evaluations and test results to determine occupational therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription.
• Implement programs involving manual arts and crafts, practice in functional, prevocational, vocational, and homemaking skills, activities of daily living, and sensorimotor, educational, recreational, and social activities.
• Direct aides, technicians, and assistants in patient care.
• Select and construct therapies according to individual's physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest to promote maximum independence.
• Prepare patients for return to employment by consulting with employers, determining potential employee difficulties, retraining employees, and helping employers understand necessary physical and job result accommodations.
• Evaluate the results of occupational therapy by observing, noting, and evaluating patient's progress; recommend and implement adjustments and modifications.
• Complete discharge planning by consulting with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other health care workers; contribute to patient care conferences.
• Assure continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing and instructing patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs, recommending and/or providing assistive equipment, and recommending outpatient or home health follow-up programs.
• Document patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
• Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential.
• Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
• Ensure operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, and calling for repairs.
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
• Develop occupational therapy staff by providing information and developing and conducting in-service training programs.
• Comply with federal, state, and local legal and certification requirements.
• Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Required Qualifications
• Possession of an Occupational Therapy License issued by the state of Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies.
• Possession of a valid registration certification with the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy.
• Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for career counseling and guidance.
• Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
• Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services, including needs assessment, meeting quality standards, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
• Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
• Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.

Experience
• Previous experience preferred.

Skills
• Manual dexterity to operate equipment and computers.

Certifications
• BLS required.

Physical Demands
• Long periods of time walking, bending, stooping, and squatting.
• Full range of movements of all major joints.
• Ability to perform at a physical effort level equal to "medium" as defined by the Dictionary of Occupational Titles.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently.
• Ability to sit up to 2 hours at a time.
• Works indoors in a well-lighted, ventilated area.
• May be exposed to communicable disease and hazardous materials.
• May deal with and help maintain department equipment.
• Possibility of injury from moving patients and heavy appliances.
