  • Job Summary
    The CVOR Technician supports cardiovascular surgical procedures by assisting the surgical team in preparing and maintaining the sterile field, handling surgical instruments, and ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available and functional. This role requires a high level of technical expertise, attention to detail, and familiarity with cardiovascular surgical procedures to provide safe and effective care in a high-acuity environment.

    Key Responsibilities
    1. Prepare the operating room for cardiovascular surgical procedures, ensuring all instruments, supplies, and equipment are sterile and ready.
    2. Assist surgeons and surgical team members during procedures by passing instruments, holding retractors, and anticipating surgical needs.
    3. Maintain a sterile environment and adhere to infection control protocols throughout all procedures.
    4. Ensure proper functioning of surgical instruments and equipment prior to and during procedures.
    5. Handle specimens appropriately and in accordance with hospital policies.
    6. Participate in room turnover, cleaning, and restocking between cases.
    7. Collaborate with the surgical team, circulating nurse, and anesthesiologist to ensure seamless workflow.
    8. Maintain accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments before, during, and after procedures.
    9. Document procedures and assist in maintaining accurate surgical records.
    10. Support cardiovascular surgery cases including open-heart, thoracic, and vascular procedures.

    Required Qualifications
    1. High school diploma or equivalent.
    2. Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
    3. Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in an operating room, preferably with CVOR experience.
    4. Knowledge of surgical instrumentation, sterile technique, and cardiovascular procedures.
    5. Strong communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
    6. Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/move equipment as needed.

    Preferred Qualifications
    1. Prior experience in a Cardiovascular OR or working with open-heart surgery teams.
    2. Familiarity with electronic documentation and surgical case tracking systems.
    3. Advanced knowledge of cardiovascular surgical instruments and procedures.

    Certifications
    1. Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through NBSTSA (required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire).
    2. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required).
    3. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (preferred).
